Season 19 Dedication
Season 19 Dedication
In Memory of Kelly & Marlene Brock
The Spanish Trail Playhouse proudly dedicates Season 19 to the memory of Kelly and Marlene Brock in honor of their unwavering support and lasting contributions to both the Playhouse and the greater community.
Both Kelly and Marlene grew up in the Vernon community, attending and graduating from Vernon schools. It was at Vernon High School where they met, a beginning that led to a loving marriage in 1956 and a shared life rooted in service, family and community.
Family
Kelly was born on August 14, 1935, to the late Clarence Brock and Belvia (White) Brock. Marlene was born on August 22, 1935, to the late Herschel and Donnie Waller. Together, they shared 68 years of marriage and were the proud parents of two sons, Vann Brock (Dee) and Patrick Brock (Angie). Their family grew to include six grandchildren: Brittany, Allie, Trenton, Layne, Gianna, and Aiden, along with two step-grandsons, William Trawick and Jacob Trawick.
Careers
Kelly earned his associate’s degree from Chipola College and both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Troy State University. Over a 40-year career in education, he impacted countless lives as a classroom teacher, driver’s education instructor, assistant principal, and principal at both the elementary and high school levels. He also served four terms as Superintendent of Washington County Schools and later worked with the FL State Department of Education. In addition, Kelly owned and operated ABC Fence Systems, Inc. in Chipley. Marlene devoted 30 years of service to BellSouth/AT&T as a telephone operator. Kelly passed away on September 4, 2024, and Marlene followed just two months later on December 6, 2024.
Together, Kelly and Marlene were deeply active in the community.
Kelly was a dedicated member of the Chipley Kiwanis Club and a proud Mason. Both were faithful members of Shiloh Baptist Church in Chipley. They enjoyed fishing in local creeks and rivers, spending time with close friends and attending performances at Spanish Trail Playhouse. Their support of the arts, and of Spanish Trail Playhouse in particular, went far beyond attendance. They were devoted advocates who believed strongly in the power of theatre to enrich the community. When a need arose, Kelly and Marlene were often among the first to step forward with their time, resources, and encouragement. When the Playhouse needed to replace the auditorium curtains and seating, Kelly helped lead the charge in the community encouraging participation and inspiring others to contribute. They rarely missed a production and consistently uplifted the volunteers who made each show possible.
